PostSubject: Its that question...   Thu May 22, 2008 6:05 pm

Well. For some reason, the topic always comes up in music forums of people's favorite musical artists. So. You guys started talking about that in the other thread and I felt that it was such a huge potential discussion I had to start another topic on it. But here are my general ideas, (plus it really has not much to do w/ the other thread).

My favorite artists have changed a lot over the years. But consistantly, my favorite artists have shared some traits.
  • individuality (uniqueness)
playability (ease of listening, not too intense)
catchiness (hooky riffs, outstanding or alternative songs)

So heres my list of artists (sorta) for this month, (a little ordered):

1)Beatles--------------------- 6)Dylan
2)Zeppelin-------------------- 7)White Stripes
3)BB King--------------------- 8)The Who
4)Chuck Berry--------------- 9)Clapton
5)Marvin gaye--------------- 10)Either Jeff Beck or U2 cant decide right now

Umm if you guys think im being mAinstream, Im not. No rolling Stones, no Beach Boys, no Hendrix, trust me I'm not just following the crowd. Contemporaries I like are:

1) Dreamtheater
2) Tool
3) The Smashing Pumpkins
4) Black Tide (for you metalheads... *grumble*...)
5) RHCP

OK I said my share so how 'bout you guys?

I have absolutely no idea what my favorite artist is. However, at the moment, I'm really into AILD (sorry Joe) but really into slipknot and korn as well. thats the heavier stuff. I'm also making some lighter stuff (yes, making as in creating) which is wayyyyy more fun than creating heavy stuff. But idk, music isn't preference to me, its just all soooo good.

Korn was my introduction to heavy metal, my brother got me freak on a leash for my b-day a few years back. From there I browsed around and found Slayer, Slipknot, Tool, Avenge Sevenfold and a few lesser artist. Then Christian showed me AILD and I was blown away. That lead me to find Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, As Blood Runs Black, Obituary, At the Gates and of course Arch Enemy. And somewhere in there I listened to Rammstein, SOAD, Linken Park, and some weird Al. Thats my music liking history I guess.

hmm. It seems your tastes havent changed too much simnce last timeI was aware, and RJA is pretty good. And i still sometimes listen to all thatr other stuff you mentioned in that second category, (Slipknot, System, etc.) I dont really care much for the other stuff though. Has anyone heard Disturbed's 'Perfect Insanity' yet? 'tis cool.

Although I have to say I like 'Inside the Fire' better. THIS NEW ALBUM WILL BE SIKK! "Indestructible" is a cool title. Hmm Disturbed is about as heavy as it gets for me though. So Val, besides like evil sreaming, etc. (you know what I mean) what else do you like to listen to? (Everyone else too if you want)

I do too, inside the fire is very intense. I like to listen to pretty much anything else really, although on my own I would only listen to the "screaming" music type.

Joe > I listen to screming most of the time but otherwise I listen to wolfmother, and ram jam, and a bunch of alterbative stuff I can't list off the top of my head. But I do like old stuff.

PostSubject: Re: Its that question...   Tue May 27, 2008 9:08 pm

uhhh
for me its a strange little mix
on one side I like the beatles, Led Zeppelin, and AC/DC.
on the other I kinda like Slipknot, and All that Remains.
(mind you this is not all the music I like. I like many more artists they are just not included)
sometimes I just feel confused...
Sometimes I listen to hard stuff, and sometimes lighter stuff and it doesnt even go with how I feel just some days I like a certain type of music.
Anyone have any thoughts?

I know what you'r talking about Scott, I think it's a mood thing. Although I know some who can be content with listening to the same stuff all the time (Christain and I for example) and the people like my brother who listens to classical or really heavy stuff depending on his mood.

Hmm thats a good question. I made some mix tapes a long time ago that I played based on my mood, (I know, what a nerd, right?). I dont really listen to them anymore, but if I made them again, this would be them:

Angry/Awake
*Skyway Avenue- We The Kings (We The Kings)- Kinda calme me because of the meaning and mood
*Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution- AC/DC, (Back in Black)- I would listen to this since it would make me feel like I was always right/ people who didn't like rock could just piss.
*Stroll On- the Yardbirds- Jimmy Page solos make you calm. Has a depredding effect on me.
*Shine on Crazy Diamond (any part)- Pink Floyd (Wish You Were Here)- AKA keep acting who you are and go crazy
*Ball Of Confusion- The Temptations (Satan On My Side)- It tells me I dont know what I am doing and should just think for a bit.
*Four Horsemen- Metallica (Kill 'Em All)- GRR! you get the idea.
*New Slang- The Shins (Oh Inverted World)- People dont know what I want, etc. Makes me feel different/seperate
*Renegades of Funk- RATM (Renegades)- Tells you to be a rebel and be a renegade, etc.
*Atomic Punk- Van Halen (Van Halen)- ||See above||
*I Get It- Chevelle (Vena Sera)- Final Song, tells me that people should ignore me for now and i need to understand what theyre thinking.

Ill finish the reasons later, i wanna get the tracks down.

Contemplative/Love
*Stop And Stare- OneRepublic (Dreaming Out Loud)
*5:55- Charolotte Gainsbourg (5:55)
*Summertime Blues- Blue Cheer (Vincebus Eruptum)
*My Immortal- Evanescence (Fallen)
*Eight Miles High- The Byrds (Greatest hits)
*Oh Its So Quiet- Bjork (Post)
*Around the World- RHCP (Californication)
*Killing The Blues- Robert Plant+Allison Krauss (Raising Sand)
(I love that!! i think they should get together)
*Until The End Of The World- U2 (Achtung Baby)
*Brown Eyed Girl- Van Morrison (Super Hits)

Drained
*Its Not My Time- 3 doors Down (3 Doors Down)
*Something in the Air- Thunderclap Newman (Flower Power)
*Custard Pie- Led Zeppelin- Physical Graffiti
*Viva La Vida- Coldplay (Viva La vida)
(New Single! Sounds Cool...)
*All Along the Watchtower- Hendrix (Experience Hendrix)
*Rocket Man- Elton John (Greatest Hits)
*Mr. Tambourine Man- Dylan (Greatest Hits)
(Yes I like the dylan version better...)
*And When I Die- Blood, Sweat & Tears (BST)
*Satisfaction- Rolling Stones (Greatest Hits)
*The Anthem- Good Charolotte (Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous)

I can't pick a favorite music genre/artist/song. I don't think this is bragging, but I think I am the most open to music then all of you. Thats just a guess, but I'm pretty sure of it. I can literally switch genres instantly while playing or listening to music. Joe has witnessed that I am sure. I can't pick a favorite artist because I am constantly changing and rethinking about music. One day, excuse me, one moment I could have one favorite band or song, and the next it would be totally different. By the time I've finished writing this post, I have probably changed my favorite genre/artist/song a few times.
