hah of course i am a nerd what do you expect... I am taking one, called the U of M summer C++ programming center for youths, and if you are (really, really) interested, i will get you the reference. It is EXXPENSIVE though. like, I had to pay some of for it b/c it was 600 bucks for a week. Good though. They give you the Ubuntu kernel.

You do? Cool. But how much do you know already? If the answer is not much,I can give you some books. Read the books before you take the class. You need some basic knowledge. Otherwise, to get info, you may need to call me cause I dont really want to mass post it. (Its a small class).

Books would be great, I've already read a whole book on C# but would really like to know C++ and Java and stuff since thats whats being asked as "basic knowldge" taught in the college cousres that I might take. I don't think you could get them to me until summer, so that will be a good time to do that.

If I have any quewstions I'll call you, btw, do you have a cell phone? cuz that would be realy helpful. w/e if you din't I still have your home phone number =)

Ya I do have a phone but I dont know the # and cannot find out @ the moment, (long story) but yeah if you read a book on C# and did all the examples/worksheets/questions and thouroughly understood all the stuff, (hard to do w/o a teacher), then you are prob. fine. Dont learn another variant (C, C++). You should def. learn Java or Pearl. Pronto. Have you done anything non-text yet? If you have, dont continue. Stick to text, and if you have windows, dont use fancy programs either. Vis C# is fine. Or if you are really a start-from-scratch type like me, use cmd prompt. Also, try to do some theory/base work like learning a little Assembly and understanding your hardware/firmware. It helps, trust me.

OK.. then I need to reread the book. I don't have a compiler at all. And don't know how to use the comand promt... I'll call you sometime soon to ask, some questions.

aah. good to know that. well the most important part is the beginning and probably once you get like an eighth of the way through or so it will be mostly details. Try jusyt to establish a base knowledge. This should include:

You can build a program from scratch on several writing softwares
You build a functional programs that will assist you with something, (ie multiplication, factoring, etc)
You can use some basic operators, (functions/variables/generators/compounds)

If you can do this, you are a little OK-ish to say you have 'basic knowledge'. Remember not to just read through, but to do EVERY activity, because in programming, hands on is essentially the only way to learn.

umm there are free ones, (Visual C# 2005 by microsoft, search it on google. Or just search free compilers. But thats the best free one.). Or learn Cmd prompt. Or load linux, (also free) and get the ubuntu kernel and load geany, a great compiler.

Joe > Val and I worked on some C# together but microsoft's compilers did not work. We followed the book's examples and double, triple, quadruple checked but it would still ot compile. We even copied the book's examples and they did not work. It was a huge frustration.
